A rainfall is expected to sweep into New York City and the rest of the Tristate area on Wednesday and Thursday, prompting a flood watch.
The National Weather Service anticipates up to an inch of rain per hour on Wednesday during the most severe spells of precipitation, which are set to begin in the afternoon and become heavier at night.
The flood watch is scheduled to start on Wednesday at 1 p.m. and conclude on Thursday at 6 a.m. It is predicted that the afternoon highs will be in the mid-50s and the evening lows will stay in the low-40s.
Forecasters stated on Tuesday that “rates of around an inch per hour for prolonged periods of time are possible with the setup.” “As a result, widespread minor flooding is anticipated along with areas of more significant flooding.”
“A second low will approach on Wednesday and pass to the southeast on Thursday, bringing more significant rainfall of 1-2 inches, with locally higher amounts possible across Long Island and southeast Connecticut,” the weather service said following light afternoon rain on Tuesday.
“We may manage one dry day this week on Friday before a third storm arrives this weekend and brings yet more rain,” it concluded.
