FBI agents searched the Bronx home of one of New York Mayor Eric Adams’ top advisers on Thursday morning, News 12 reported.
Dozens of officers reportedly raided the apartment of Winnie Greco, who advises Adams on Asian issues and worked as fundraiser for the mayor’s successful 2021 campaign. Based on information provided by City Hall, the woman reportedly failed to show up for work on Thursday by filing a leave of absence.
Also on Thursday, the FBI searched two other New York properties, including a second house belonging to Greco, the New York Times reported.
Federal agents have been investigating Adams’ circle of loyalists for several months now to ascertain the origin of money flows deemed suspicious. In November, the FBI had confiscated the mayor’s personal devices and searched the residence of his top donor as part of a criminal investigation into whether Adams’ 2021 campaign staff colluded with a Brooklyn construction company and the Turkish government to clandestinely receive foreign funds.
A spokesman for the mayor issued a statement reiterating that Adams has not been accused of any wrongdoing. “Our administration will always follow the law, and we always expect all our employees to adhere to the strictest ethical guidelines,” the statement said. “As we have repeatedly said, we don’t comment on matters that are under review, but will fully cooperate with any review underway.”
So far, no one has been formally charged in the federal investigation into the mayor’s campaign fundraising.
