A 17-year-old migrant was stabbed amid a violent altercation involving dozens of individuals, including other migrants, in Times Square on Thursday night, according to police.
The male victim, who is thought to be from Nicaragua, was knifed in the lower back in front of 251 W. 42nd Street at around 5:30 p.m., only feet away from the Candler Building, a derelict office skyscraper that has been transformed into a migrant shelter. This is also the site of a videotaped attack on officers that shook the city last month.
Officers on foot patrolling close to the cross streets noticed the altercation at the same moment and pursued the individual brandishing the knife, according to the police.
The victim was transported by EMS to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. Photos from the scene show the huge knife coated in blood being examined by the police.
A 22-year-old man and six other suspects were arrested in the following hours, including three migrant teenagers, as more than a dozen were being sought. Two hours later, two groups started fighting in front of the Hard Rock Café a block away from the scene, sparking another brawl, according to the police.
All participants in the altercation were migrants, a police source informed the Daily News.
