A Brazilian tourist was stabbed in the neck in an unprovoked attack at a Queens subway station on Thursday morning, according to police and law enforcement officials.
The 29-year-old victim was standing at the Queens Plaza station when an unknown assailant approached him from behind and slashed him in the neck about 10:30 a.m., according to investigators and sources. The victim was brought to Elmhurst Hospital and is anticipated to make a full recovery.
The perpetrator was still at large late on Friday. However, NYPD Chief of Transit Mike Kemper swore to find the person responsible.
“We will make an arrest, when we do there needs to accountability and consequences — swift. We make arrests every day and we find ourselves arresting the same people over and over again,” Kemper told The New York Post.
The stabbing was the city’s second violent outburst involving injuries to tourists in the past week. A 15-year-old migrant reportedly shot and injured a 38-year-old Brazilian tourist in a Times Square business after a heist went wrong last Thursday. A police officer is also suspected of being shot at by suspect Jesus Alejandro Rivas-Figueroa as he ran from the scene. Later, police found him in Yonkers.
