Kevin Monahan, a man who fired his shotgun at a car that unexpectedly pulled into his driveway, killing the 20-year-old woman in the driver’s seat, has been found guilty of second-degree murder in Fort Edward, New York, as of this Tuesday.
On April 15th, 2023, in the upstate town of Hebron, New York, Monahan fired two shots with a 0.20-gauge shotgun at a car that he didn’t recognize that pulled into his driveway. One of the shots hit the car carrying Kaylin Gillis, who was hit in the neck and died soon after.
Ms. Gillis and a group of six friends had been trying to find a friend’s house for a Saturday night party when they drove up Mr. Monahan’s half-mile long driveway.
During his two-week trial, Mr. Monahan testified that the fatal shooting was an accident, claiming that the gun spontaneously fired after he tripped on his porch.
