A man was fatally stabbed outside a migrant shelter on Randalls Island on Saturday night, and his assailant was apprehended shortly afterwards, according to police.
About 7:27 p.m., a fight close to the migrant shelter’s front door turned deadly when the 26-year-old suspect stabbed a 24-year-old male in the chest, according to police.
Police stated the victim could not be saved although he was taken by ambulance to Harlem Hospital.
The assailant was quickly apprehended by police close to the shelter. According to authorities, it was unclear at first what led to their disagreement.
The murder was the second reported violent incident at a migrant center on Saturday. Authorities reported that at around 8:20 a.m., a man attacked two police officers who were trying to subdue a boisterous group of people outside a migrant center located at the former St. Brigid School on E. Seventh St. close to Avenue B in the East Village. The officers sustained minor injuries to their cheeks and knees.
After being taken into custody, 24-year-old Angel Gutierrez Medal was accused of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
