Over 1.4 million riders took nearly 36 million Citi Bikes for a spin in 2023, which set a new annual record, though now higher demands call for higher prices.
The NYC DOT (Department of Transportation) announced they would be expanding and improving the Citi Bike service considerably by the end of 2024, which will allegedly by added to the price people pay to rent the bikes.
Starting on January 4th, 2024, the annual Citi Bike membership pricing will increase to $219.99 per year from the price of $205 that it’s at right now.
Members will also now receive 60 free e-bike minutes after every annual renewal, along with a prorated number of minutes until their membership renews.
In terms of single trips for non-members, it will now cost $4.79 to unlock a bike and ride it for 30 minutes, which is 30 cents more than its current price of $4.49. Additionally, riding either a classic or an e-bike for longer than 30 minutes will cost 30 cents per minute, a 15% increase from 26 cents per minute.
After the completion of their projected expansion in 2024, Citi Bike will have deployed more than 40,000 bikes across NYC.
