At least four people were killed and two police officers were injured in a brutal murderous attack Sunday morning in Far Rockaway, Queens – ending with officers neutralizing the suspect.
Around 5:10 a.m., a teenage girl phoned 911 claiming that her cousin was “killing family members” at a multifamily home at 467 Beach 22nd Street, NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said during a press conference.
When cops arrived on the scene, one of them was shot in the face by the suspect, who was trying to leave the house with luggage in tow, while another was shot in the neck.
“As they get to the driveway they see a male walking out. He’s carrying luggage. The officers asked the male a question or two, an encounter that lasted about 10 seconds, where the male draws a knife on our officers. He stabs one officer in the neck/chest area and strikes the second officer in the head,” Maddery said. One officer eventually fired at the suspect – identified as 39-year-old Courtney Gordon – killing him.
Police then had to wait for firefighters to arrive to put out a fire that prevented them from entering the home. Immediately after putting out the flames, officers discovered the body of a dead child outside the home and, inside, three other victims likely stabbed repeatedly.
The injured police officers were admitted to nearby Jamaica Hospital but would not be life-threatening. According to the NYPD, another stabbing victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
