On the occasion of the 33rd Edition of N.I.C.E. New Italian Cinema Events the Italian Cultural Institute in New York is pleased to invite you to the screening of “La lunga corsa -Jailbird”.
For young Giacinto, prison is like home. It would indeed be more correct to say that prison is his only home, because the little boy has been born in prison and has spent his entire life in prison with his mother. Prison is the place where Giacinto truly breathes and lives, as that’s the place where he has been born, learnt to walk and love. As soon as the prison doors close behind him, the young man feels that life outside the prison walls is not for him. At the first opportunity, he escapes from the outside back to prison, his home, where he can feel safe from the dangerous outside world. But upon reaching adulthood, Giacinto has to make an important decision.
Andrea Magnani lives between Rome and Trieste. He worked as screenwriter for many Italian Tv Series, among them Cops by Luca Miniero and L’Ispettore Coliandro by Manetti Bros. In 2017 he directed his first feature film, Easy, which was premiered at 70. Locarno Festival. Easy was selected at more than 100 film festivals worldwide and it was nominated for best emerging director and best leading actor at David di Donatello Award in 2018.
This Fall, N.I.C.E. returns to the United States, celebrating its 33rd edition dedicated to Italian cinema and engaging with directors and critics. The films selected for 2023, all premiering in the United States, include works from first and second feature directors of great value, spanning from comedy to drama. This demonstrates that, despite recent difficulties, Italian authors are more active and motivated than ever.
