Dr. Dana Diab, an emergency department physician in New York City, lost her job as a result of her divisive online comments in which she praised Hamas for killing concertgoers at a southern Israel music festival and said that the assaults had given Israelis “a taste of their own medicine.”
According to NYC Health + Hospitals, Diab, an emergency department physician at Lenox Hill Hospital and Brookdale University Hospital & Medical Center, posted a video of the horrifying incident on her Instagram Stories on October 7.
“Zionist settlers getting a taste of their own medicine,” she wrote, according to a screenshot shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday by StopAntisemitism, a US non-profit organization.
Consequently, on Tuesday morning Northwell Health announced that Diab was no longer employed by the healthcare network.
“We are deeply sorry for the hurt and offense these comments have caused,” Northwell wrote on X. “These views do not represent Lenox Hill Hospital and Northwell Health and go against our core values. The team member is no longer employed with Northwell.”
Meanwhile, the legal firm Davis Polk & Wardwell has withdrawn job offers to three students from Harvard University and Columbia University, citing involvement in student organizations whose remarks on the Israel-Hamas conflict contradicted the business’s beliefs.
Tensions on college campuses have been high since the militant organization Hamas started a spate of terrorist assaults on Israel on October 7, forcing the Israel Defense Forces to conduct counterattacks on Gaza. According to Israeli sources, the Hamas strikes resulted in the deaths of more over 1,300 individuals. According to the health ministry for Gaza, more than 3,000 Palestinians have died there.
