When it comes to celebrating Italian culture, few things capture the essence of this country quite like its wines.
Italy is renowned for its rich history, diverse landscapes, and the exquisite wines that flow from its vineyards. On a warm fall evening in New York City, the Italian Trade Agency, in collaboration with Federdoc, presented an event that showcased the very best of Italian winemaking. The masterclass, conducted by Federdoc President Riccardo Ricci Cubastro and writer Susannah Gold, took place at the Alice Restaurant in Manhattan and featured ten distinct Italian wines paired with ten dishes.
Federdoc, established in 1979 as the Voluntary Consortia National Confederation for the Protection of the Italian Wines Designations, serves as the guardian of Italy’s wine heritage, overseeing the production of wines under various protected designations of origin (DOCG), protected geographical indications (DOC), and typical geographical indications (IGT).
They offer legal and legislative assistance, safeguarding the reputation and authenticity of Italian wine around the world and promotes these designations through informational and promotional campaigns both within Europe and globally.

The opening remarks were made by the Acting Trade Commissioner Giovanni Mafodda and Director of the Food and Wine ITA Division Raimondo Lucariello. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the Italian Trade Agency’s commitment to promoting Italian products in the United States.
Guests were treated to a selection of ten Italian wines, each representing a different region and style. The concept of pairing wines with food is an integral part of Italian culture: it is no secret that the Italians take their cuisine seriously. In this context, Federdoc’s involvement in educational projects, collaboration with government bodies and partnerships with private organizations, underscore their dedication to enhancing awareness and understanding of Italian wines.
The evening was not just about wines. It was a celebration of the Italian way of life, a journey through the heart and soul of a country deeply connected to its land and its traditions. It’s a testament to the fact that when Italian wines flow, they bring with them a piece of country – its history, its culture, and its extraordinary flavors.
