The NYPD has made 41 arrests at the Big Apple’s once-exclusive Roosevelt Hotel since it became a migrant shelter in May, a new report says. The majority of the arrests are for domestic violence incidents, according to the New York Post.
This past weekend, a 30-year-old man was taken into custody after he was accused of endangering a child, his 11-year-old daughter, in the midtown hotel. The Manhattan DA office didn’t prosecute.
“After thorough investigation and review of the facts, the People declined to prosecute this matter,” a spokesperson for the Manhattan DA’s office said in a statement. “If a crime cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, it is our ethical duty not to charge it.”
In another startling case, a hotel worker was whacked with a No Parking sign in June after the migrant was removed from the building over poor behavior. That caused an unannounced site visit from Mayor Eric Adams who vowed to investigate the incidents. The worker ended up with a 6-inch gash on his head.
The Roosevelt had also come under scrutiny over the summer when video came out showing dozens of migrants sleeping on cardboard on the sidewalk outside.
