A $350 million production-studio complex is coming to Pier 94. Blackstone, Hudson Pacific Properties and Vornado Realty Trust will construct the 266,000-square-foot campus in Hell’s Kitchen near the cruise terminal, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
According to The Journal, the project has been in the works for more than two years.
Cast as “Sunset Pier 94 Studios,” the project will include other public amenities worked into the Greenway bike and park trail along the Hudson. Groundbreaking will start later this year.
The project’s announcement comes as New York has grown into a major destination for film and television production thanks to its tax incentives, and this will stand as the only studio on the island of Manhattan once finished. Though shooting for has been hampered substantially due to the current writers and actors strikes, when labor disputes aren’t taking place many producers and media companies are hard-pressed to find space for their shows.
