A Long Island Rail Road train derailed in Queens on Thursday morning, resulting in seven people sustaining minor injuries, as confirmed by officials.
The incident occurred when the train, en route to Hempstead after departing from Grand Central Station at 10:43 AM, experienced a disablement east of the Jamaica Station, specifically at the intersection of 175th Street and 93rd Avenue, around 11:15 AM, according to the MTA. Fortunately, there were no reports of serious injuries, and passengers were safely transferred to alternative trains.
Emergency response crews, including firefighters, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The FDNY reported that a total of eight train cars were derailed.
As a result of the derailment, eastbound LIRR trains are currently bypassing Hillside, Hollis, and Queens Village until further notice.
