Rex Heuermann, the alleged serial murderer from Gilgo Beach, made an appearance in court on Tuesday in Riverhead for a hearing to go through discovery in relation to at least three women’s killings.
The 59-year-old architect, who has already pleaded not guilty, is currently the main suspect for the slaying of a fourth victim as well.
While his attorney and a Suffolk County prosecutor reviewed discovery, the suspect, who was dressed in a business coat and khaki pants, rocked back and forth on his heels.
The prosecution said that they had given the defense hard drives, as well as around 2,500 pages of papers and images – which Michael Brown, Heuermann’s lawyer, insisted that he hadn’t seen yet. The records reportedly included autopsy and DNA reports, as well as security video from the defendant’s house – which prosecutors insist will be produced when appropriate.
Mr. Brown declared that his client planned to go to trial and would not accept a plea bargain. “There’s no plea deal, he said from the moment I met him that ‘I did not do this,’ so we’re prepared to go forward,” Brown said. “We will defend this case in a court of law and we are prepared to go to trial on this case.”
In the past weeks oolice have been looking outside of Long Island in places like South Carolina, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City where the suspect may have connections.
