“The Worst Restaurant In NYC Right Now” is gone for f…ood – three years after promising to introduce the Big Apple to the best burger ever.
Launched in late February 2020, right before Covid-19 lockdowns, Park Avenue’s Salt Bae Burger has had a rocky road since he launched it in a city where people are obsessed with finding the ultimate burger.
It was owned by ‘Salt Bae’ himself, that is, Turkish celebrity chef Nusret Gökçe, who gained notoriety by bouncing salt flakes off his forearm and onto just about anything edible.
The now-closed burger joint’s menu featured burgers for up to $100, a $99 milkshake, and complimentary vegetarian burgers given to ladies as a “compliment” – earning him accusations of sexism.
The restaurant was also criticized for its very pompous, pricey atmosphere as well as an influencer-oriented cuisine. It was even dubbed “the worst” in the city by Gothamist in 2020, which described it as “an insult to our city.”
“The food is terrible here”, the review reads. ”Salt Bae Burger is an insult to our city. Don’t eat here, not even as a goof,’.
