The Italian National Olympic Committee in the United States (Coni USA), the Committees of Italian Abroad in New York (Com.It.Es NY), and the Pontelandolfo Community Club (Ponte Club) completed the third Bocce & Picnic Tournament for families and friends of the Italian, Italian-American, and all citizens who love the Italian language and culture of the Tri-State area.
The Tournament took place on the bocce courts of the Pontelandolfo Club in Waterbury, CT, on Saturday, May 13, 2023. The players, including the father and daughter Nick and Gina Perugini, came from the towns of Waterbury, Torrington, Stratford, Prospect, Watertown and Litchfield.
A beautiful sunny day made the games even more pleasurable offering the attending guests the opportunity for a guided tour of the beautiful facilities lead by Nicola Trombetta, president of the Campani Federation of the USA. The placed teams are:
- Tony Rubbo (Waterbury), who is also the president of the club & Tony Poletta (Watertown)
- Joe Rinaldi & Jolly Rubbo (Waterbury)
- Giovanni Calabrese (Torrington) & Michele Varrone (Waterbury).
Following the awarding of medals to the winners, presented by Cav. Uff. Mico Delianova Licastro, representative of Coni in the USA, by Alessandro Crocco, president of Comites NY, and by Nicola Trombetta, president of the Campani Federation of the USA a pizza picnic was offered to all in attendance.
A very special thanks was given to Alfonso Panico, former Italian Honorary Consul for Connecticut, who helped in integrating the relationship among event sponsors, to Nick Perugini for his efficient management of the process of preparing and managing the tournament.
The next Coni USA – Com.It.Es. NY – FIAO Brooklyn Bocce Tournament and picnic (BYO) will take place in Brooklyn on June 17 starting promptly at 11am (setup start at 10am) at the Dyker Park’s bocce courts located at 86th Street and 13th/14th Ave.
