The iconic sea service celebration that is Fleet Week New York is coming back to the five boroughs next month.
About 2,400 uniform personnel are expected to participate in the week-long event this year.
It kicks off Wednesday, May 24th, with the Parade of Ships, and runs through Tuesday, May 30th. Three US Navy ships, two US Coast Guard vessels, and four US Naval Academy boats will be a part of the celebration. In addition, a trio of vessels from NATO states Canada, Italy, and the UK will get in on the action, too.
Fleet Week was canceled in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID pandemic and held virtually after being a New York City staple since 1984. It returned in-person in 2022, though it was modest; Fleet Week is expected to be back 100% in 2023.
Returning for its 35th year, Fleet Week New York offers tri-staters an opportunity to meet Navy sailors, Marines, and Coast Guard members as well as learn about what they can do at sea.
“New York has always been an incredible host,” Rear Adm. Charles “Chip” Rock, Commander Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, said. “We can’t wait for our brave women and men to get an opportunity to experience all the city offers and for New Yorkers to get a glimpse of what we do every day.”
