Around Martin Luther King High School it is all anyone is talking about. On Amsterdam Avenue, between 67th and 68th streets, everyone is following the developments of what happened this morning, when around 10 a.m. a school day was interrupted by a series of gunshots.
Injured was a 17-year-old boy who was shot in the torso. Before falling to the ground and being taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital, he made time to run inside the high school, where he was immediately rescued. He was hit three times and has serious injuries, but the worst seems to be over.
It was not difficult for the police to find and place the culprit in custody: a 19-year-old whose identity has not yet been revealed but who has already collected three arrests in his short criminal career: two er drug dealing and one for armed robbery.
“Without the help of the community,” said NYPD Chief John Chell, “this case would have been much more difficult to solve this morning. This is a true partnership between the city of New York and the police department to get a criminal off the street without further complications.”
Mayor Eric Adams also rushed to the scene, visiting the scene but making no statement.
