On December 5 we reported that small business owners in a busy part of Brooklyn Heights were complaining that an improvised Christmas tree vendor had broken all the rules and obtained a permit by stealing one merchant’s identity. The situation was baffling and frustrating because it appeared that no city agency was taking the steps to correct the infraction.
Now we report a new development: the Christmas tree vendor has finally been evicted. It took concerted efforts by local businesses, the 84th Precinct, Councilmember Lincoln Restler, the Department of Consumer Affairs and various reports in the media to finally remove the rogue Christmas tree vendor that had been squatting on Montague Street, using a tax permit belonging to a local Key Food and breaking other laws.
