Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday the start of New York State’s 2022 fall foliage and travel season. The governor unveiled a new I LOVE NY broadcast and digital marketing campaign designed to showcase popular fall activities and attractions.
Hochul said there’s nothing like New York in the fall, from colorful foliage to natural landscapes to one-of-a-kind state parks.
“During the season, we invite travelers from New York and out-of-state to plan a perfect autumn adventure — whether it’s climbing an Adirondack peak, visiting a Long Island winery or walking along Buffalo’s waterfront — and see what our great state has to offer,” she said.
To make it easier to decide what to see and do, the public can use the I LOVE NY website. They can choose what to explore by region or by city.
On Long Island, the website highlights seeing the views from the top of Montauk Lighthouse, exploring Fire Island National Seashore and shopping
There are lots more to check out by filtering by categories or cities.
And if leaf peeping is a priority on your tourism list, you can sign up for weekly fall foliage reports here. The reports will begin hitting inboxes Sept. 14.
They will include an interactive foliage map, which will be available on the I LOVE NY website, tracking weekly changes and progression across the state through the entire season. The map will include an option to filter attractions by category, including food and drink and arts and culture.
Additionally, I LOVE NY will host a Path Through History weekend Oct. 8-10 to showcase some of the state’s historic and heritage travel sites. The initiative uses 14 themes to organize more than 700 sites, attractions and locations throughout the state.
There will also be maps, a user-friendly list of locations organized by theme and region and an itinerary builder to help plan a trip.
Two attractions highlighted on the website for Long Island are a tour of the Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse and Mourning at the Manor and Fall Festival.
