Sofia and Leonardo were the most popular names given to new babies in Italy in 2021, ISTAT said.
They were followed by Alessandro, Tommaso and Francesco for boys, and Aurora, Giulia and Ginevra for girls, said the stats agency in its 2021 report on births.
Leonardo has been the most popular name since 2018, while Alessandro has risen to second place from third in 2020, ISTAT said.
Tommaso is up one to third while Francesco is down one to fourth.
For girls, Sofia was steady in first place while Aurora was up from third to second, Giulia was down one to third, and Ginevra clung on to fourth.
