Initial concerns that child cases of hepatitis were linked to, or even caused by, either Covid-19 vaccines or the coronavirus virus itself were dismissed as not valid by Health Undersecretary Pierpaolo Sileri. On Tuesday he summarily ruled out that possibility as the cause of a recent spate of cases of of acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children in Europe.
“A link to the COVID vaccine can be excluded because it is not available for (children under five) the age range in which the cases have occurred,” Sileri told Radio InBlu2000. “A link with Sars-Cov-2 is excluded too, except for cross-reactivity or a concurrent infection. “The most likely hypothesis seems to be an adenovirus, which does not usually cause hepatitis, but concurrent with another infection or other factors, can cause hepatitis harm. “In most cases, the patient was found positive for the adenovirus. But that is not sufficient to establish a relationship”.
