Celebrating Five Years of Fearless Girl!
Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and five years of Fearless Girl! The iconic bronze sculpture of a young girl was unveiled in 2017 celebrating women and designed to call attention to the glass ceiling regarding promotion and equal pay.
The Artwork still stands as a temporary work after all these years and is up for a fourth permitting review this Spring. The issues of a need for equality and diversity are not likely to go away any time soon. The work is permanent in Melbourne and Oslo but, is still temporary in her birth city New York. The Artist, Kristen Visbal has offered to donate an Artist Proof casting to New York to fulfill a city requirement for ownership of works in the permanent collection. The New York Stock Exchange casting is owned by State Street Global Advisors and does not belong to the city.
The Artist is concerned messaging behind the figure has been lost and has established a petition to ensure her offer is formally heard by the city. Kristen Visbal is available for questions regarding the future of Fearless Girl and the Fearless Girl NFTs completed and soon to drop!.
Happy International Women’s Day!
