Four pizzerias on Long Island are among the best in the country, according to a new national directory of regional pizza styles created by The Washington Post using Yelp data.
“We set out to find the country’s best pizzas, from slice shops in New York City to fancy California-inspired pizzas, gathering favorites from experts, historians and pros around the country,” The Post reported Thursday. “For a more populist view, Washington Post data columnist Andrew Van Dam analyzed 7.5 million Yelp reviews of pizzerias to see which regional-style restaurants attract the most and highest ratings.”
The newspaper only considered pizzerias that had at least 100 Yelp reviews and where a substantial share mentioned the pizza style in question — Chicago, New York, Detroit, Neapolitan and Sicilian.
“We ranked them with a simple formula that accounted for rating (most important), number of reviews (important) and how often reviews mentioned that particular pizza style (less important). For most types, we limited our search to the metro area of the pizza’s birth,” the newspaper said.

“With a pizza pie that is both classic and artisan, Rocca has perfected his craft and is bringing a thin, crispy pizza to the table. As he says, “It’s traditional, but American traditional, with that Italian feel. Huntington will surely welcome Dough & Co as the new neighborhood spot that offers a unique pie every time. “
Neapolitan:
Saverio’s Authentic Pizza Napoletana
929 N. Broadway (A&S Pork Store)
Massapequa, New York 11758

“Owner Saverio is a certified pizzaiolo of the Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani (Association of Neapolitan Pizza-makers). He uses nothing but DOP ingredients. San Marzano D.O.P. tomatoes can only grow in one place on Earth: outside Naples, near and around Mt. Vesuvius. The soil around the volcano is extraordinarily fertile, and rich in nutrients and minerals. We use real, imported San Marzano D.O.P. tomatoes (Pomodoro S. Marzano dell’Agro Sarnese-Nocerino D.O.P.) on our Margherita D.O.P. and Saverios Margherita pizzas!”

Taglio Pizza customers tout its crust that they call “light and airy perfection”. In March their chef competed on the popular cooking show, Chopped, and they announced it on Facebook.
“Who else is excited to watch our very own @RobCervoni on the special Pizza Episode of Chopped on the @FoodNetwork tomorrow! You can watch at 8PM Eastern Time.”
Tavern Style:
Eddie’s Pizza
2048 Hillside Ave., New Hyde Park, NY 11040

Tavern style pizzas have a thinner crust than the hand tossed. This pizza is cut into squares as opposed to wedges. The name “tavern-style” comes from the pizzas originally being served in taverns, often as an enticement to drink alcohol.
Eddie’s Pizza Truck bills itself as the premier catering food truck in the NYC, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Tri-State Area, having catered over 1,000 events ranging from corporate functions and family gatherings to after weddings and bar/bat mitzvahs.
