In Scena! Playwright Award 2025 Ceremony
La serata conclusiva del Festival con la cerimonia di premiazione si svolge, come di consueto, all’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di NY. In Scena! Playwright Award 2025 viene quest’anno assegnato al drammaturgo Marco de Simone per la sua opera teatrale La regola dei terzi. La cerimonia di premiazione prevede una lettura della traduzione inglese dell’opera, con la regia di una regista. L’opera trae ispirazione da un evento reale narrato nell’autobiografia di Robert Capa. Nella notte tra il 9 e il 10 luglio 1943, il celebre fotoreporter di guerra fu accolto nella casa di un contadino, insieme ad alcuni soldati americani inviati in Sicilia poco prima dello sbarco alleato. Ignorando ogni rigore realista e superando le evidenti barriere linguistiche, l’autore immagina un dialogo tra Capa e il contadino, evidenziando i personaggi come simboli di due mondi che si incontrano sull’orlo dell’abisso aperto dalla guerra. Due mondi lontani, segnati da esperienze, intenzioni e prospettive diverse, eppure uniti da un comune rapporto con la guerra e la vita.

Rossini Perduto, a bold new three-act opera, will receive its highly anticipated world premiere on May 22, 2025, at the St. Jeans Theatre in Manhattan. With music by award-winning New York composer David Winkler and an Italian libretto by renowned poet and author Luigi Ballerini, Rossini Perduto brings an innovative operatic experience to the stage, reimagining lost and forgotten fragments of Rossini’s musical legacy.
At its core, Rossini Perduto is an exploration of artistic identity, forgotten genius, and the fine line between myth and reality. Through a striking interplay of shadows, light, and cinematic projections, the opera delves into the mystery surrounding Rossini’s “lost” music, questioning whether true artistic genius can ever be erased—or if it lingers, waiting to be rediscovered.

Space: A Journey Beyond Our Comfort Zone
In this presentation, astrophysicist Ersilia Vaudo takes us on a journey through the moments that have overturned our understanding of the Universe and the space that surrounds us. This series of “over-turnings” have challenged us to move beyond the comfort zone of our perceptions—beyond what we consider impossible. In the story that emerges, the invisible is the rule.
Ersilia Vaudo has a degree in Astrophysics and a thirty-year career at the European Space Agency. She has written and presented widely on science and space topics for a general audience. She lives in Paris.

Presentazione libro – This Darkness Will Never End
Presentazione, con la traduttrice Jeanne Bonner, della straordinaria raccolta di racconti, disponibile per la prima volta in inglese, che ha consacrato Edith Bruck come una delle figure più importanti della letteratura italiana.
“Quest’oscurità non finirà mai“, la prima raccolta di racconti dell’autrice ungherese Edith Bruck, fu pubblicata con grande successo in Italia nel 1962. Dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, Bruck, sopravvissuta all’Olocausto, si stabilì a Roma, dove scrisse i suoi racconti fiabeschi, raccontando la vita di famiglie ebree povere in Europa prima, durante e subito dopo la guerra. Nel racconto che dà il titolo all’opera, alcuni studiosi di cinema ritengono che abbia ispirato il film premio Oscar “La vita è bella”.

Open Roads: New Italian Cinema 2025
Open Roads: New Italian Cinema is the premier showcase for the most compelling voices in contemporary Italian filmmaking. This year’s edition presents 14 new feature films, ranging from works by acclaimed directors returning to Open Roads, to notable debuts by four new filmmakers—underscoring the breadth and vitality of Italian cinema today. Many of the filmmakers will be present to discuss their films. The festival opens with the New York premiere of Francesca Comencini’s latest film, The Time It Takes, which is nominated for six David di Donatello awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor for its star, Fabrizio Gifuni, who will be present for a Q&A. The film is a deeply personal cinematic autobiography about Comencini’s relationship with her legendary filmmaker father, Luigi Comencini. Romana Maggiora Vergano, who plays Francesca, won the Pasinetti Award for Best Actress at its Venice Film Festival debut.
