After nearly a decade, for the first time since 2015, Google has updated its iconic “G” logo, according to a report by 9to5Google. The change, while subtle, marks a shift in the company’s design and reflects a new phase of Google’s branding, more modern and focused on artificial intelligence.
The new logo retains the classic red, blue, yellow, and green color scheme, but abandons the block division to adopt a gradient effect, which makes the transition between the colors more fluid and modern that contrasts with the static nature of the previous one. The updated icon can already be seen in the iOS App Store on the Google Search app page and is also already available on Android with Google app version 16.18. However, it has not yet been implemented on other Google platforms or products.
This update comes at a strategic time: Google is redefining its visual identity to align with its artificial intelligence-based products, particularly Google Gemini, its generative AI assistant. Gemini’s logo, featuring shades of blue and purple and a diamond star design, clearly represents this new aesthetic direction. The “Gemini” text logo also adopts a color gradient, a sign of a shared visual language that is spreading within the brand.
Although Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, has not yet made an official comment on the company’s logo update, it is clear that the change is more than just a graphic tweak. Rather, it is an attempt to unify the company’s visual identity in an era when AI is at the center of innovation.
