Jessica Silverman Gallery will participate at Art Basel Miami, one of the most renowned art fairs of the world, which will take place from November 29 to December 3. The gallery will host a group exhibition titled “Cosmic Bodies,” presenting paintings, sculptures and textiles that explore diverse physicalities, from the creative and carnal to the heavenly and healing. The gallery will be located in the Miami Beach Convention Center at booth #M3.
The gallery’s booth will include works that explore community and care like Sadie Barnette’s glowing neon sculpture Photo Bar (2022), which sources imagery from her father’s New Eagle Creek Saloon—the first Black-owned gay bar in San Francisco. Large paintings by Clare Rojas and Rebecca Ness commemorate the beauty of everyday protection, depicting a mothering crane and a vibrantly-colored night out at a crowded New York lesbian bar. Ceramic and wood sculptures by Woody De Othello attend to the physicality of care, prominently featuring cradling hands and embracing bodies.

With the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade, Jessica Silverman’s presentation of Judy Chicago’s Birth (1984) shown in the Meridians sector, could not be more timely. Made from nearly one-million stitches, the work’s command of size, negative space and black-cotton yarn illustrates the heavenly, universal moment of creation. Exhibited only eight times since its inception nearly forty years ago, this monolithic composition celebrates the divine, feminine invention of all living things.
